Senior Backend Software Engineer (FinTech)

Location: Milan, Italy; hybrid work with three days per week in-office on Tuesday, Thursday, and one additional day of choice.

Salary: €51,000–€66,500 gross per annum.

What you will do

• Design and evolve core payment platform domains, including the Transaction Ledger, Identity & Access Management, and Payment Orchestration.
• Build and optimize services for bank integrations, credit risk, and real-time fraud detection.
• Lead technical analysis for cross-service projects and prepare technical documentation for stakeholders.
• Ensure engineering quality through testing strategies, safe rollouts, simplicity, and maintainability.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and support adoption of effective development tools.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience in backend software engineering.
• Strong experience with Java and Spring Boot.
• Professional experience with microservices, cloud environments, and distributed systems; AWS experience is preferred.
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts and coordinate implementations across teams.
• Fluent English is required.
• Ability to work in a hybrid setup in Milan, with three office days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS cloud environments.
• Background in FinTech, payment platforms, banking integrations, credit risk, or fraud detection.
