Software Engineer (Quantum Computing)

Location: Sydney, Australia; hybrid role with typically 60% on-site attendance. Fully remote work is not available.

hirify.global is a quantum computing startup developing scalable silicon-based quantum computers through collaboration across quantum engineering, integrated circuits, software, and quantum theory.

What you will do

• Assist with the characterisation and validation of quantum dots for quantum computing applications.
• Contribute to the design of scalable quantum dot-based quantum circuits.
• Maintain and expand in-house software for experiment, instrument control, data acquisition, and analysis.
• Work with hardware experts to define requirements and develop new software features.
• Refactor existing libraries and improve testing, documentation, and overall code health.
• Track feature requests, issues, and bugs, while supporting best practices for software repositories.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a closely related discipline.
• At least one year of industry experience as a Python developer.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented programming and core software design principles.
• Familiarity with Git, version control, modern software development practices, and software testing.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work independently and closely with technical end users in experimental environments.

Nice to have

• Background in physics, engineering, applied mathematics, or another physical science discipline.
• Experience with Python scientific and numerical libraries such as NumPy, SciPy, Pandas, Matplotlib, and Jupyter.
• Knowledge of C/C++, Rust, MATLAB, or similar programming languages.
• Experience preparing technical reports and presentations.
