Salary: $140,000–$240,000 per year

What you will do

• Develop AI-based data assimilation methods using observations from balloons, satellites, weather stations, and other sources.
• Work toward a foundation model for weather that predicts multiple weather-related datasets and variables.
• Find, evaluate, clean, and combine large weather datasets with inconsistent formats, resolutions, coverage, and quality.
• Run rapid experiments, investigate results, and improve model performance.
• Turn successful experiments into reusable infrastructure and dependable ML systems.
• Define research hypotheses, design experiments, follow relevant ML research, and contribute across infrastructure, evaluation, and data engineering when needed.

Requirements

• Strong research judgment and the ability to identify important questions and design convincing experiments.
• Deep interest in machine learning and understanding models in detail.
• Strong Python and PyTorch skills, including experience developing and debugging nontrivial ML systems.
• Experience with large, messy datasets and dependable data pipelines or abstractions.
• Ability to iterate quickly while identifying work that should become durable infrastructure.
• Comfort working across research and engineering and learning unfamiliar tools or domains.

Nice to have

• Experience with weather, climate, geospatial data, scientific machine learning, computer vision, or time-series forecasting.
