Design Engineer (AI)

Location: On-site in San Francisco, New York City, or Vancouver

Estimated annual compensation: $185,000–$215,000 for SF Level 3; $215,000–$250,000 for SF Level 4.

What you will do

• Design and build polished user-facing product experiences across core product surfaces.
• Own features end to end, from product thinking and UX exploration through implementation and iteration.
• Use layout, interaction design, and motion to make complex workflows intuitive and fast.
• Evolve the design system, component library, and reusable frontend patterns.
• Collaborate with product, design, and engineering to turn ambiguous ideas into high-quality experiences.
• Improve accessibility, performance, reliability, responsive behavior, and visual polish.

Requirements

• 2–5+ years of experience building user-facing products in high-ownership environments.
• Strong experience with TypeScript, React, Tailwind CSS, and modern frontend development.
• Experience building or contributing to design systems, component libraries, or reusable frontend patterns.
• Ability to own product work end to end with limited handholding and make independent UX decisions.
• Systems-first mindset with attention to performance, accessibility, reliability, and product quality.

Nice to have

• Experience with developer tools, technical products, or AI-native products.
• Familiarity with Next.js, TanStack Query, TanStack Table, TanStack Form, Zod, or Motion/React.
• Experience with CMS platforms or SEO-oriented product surfaces.
• Familiarity with Figma, Paper, or similar design tools.
• Full-stack capability and sufficient backend fluency to independently unblock product work.
