Backend Engineer (Space Infrastructure)

Location: On-site in San Francisco, California, or Golden, Colorado

Salary: $140,000–$190,000 per year

What you will do

• Build and operate backend services that collect, manage, and surface infrastructure data across the full mission lifecycle.
• Design and implement APIs and integrations connecting tools and data across teams and systems.
• Translate mission design, program, operational, and business processes into reliable software.
• Partner with program management, satellite engineering, operations, and business stakeholders.
• Gather user feedback, identify workflow and UI/UX friction, and deliver solutions that reduce complexity.
• Own features from design through production operations and challenge assumptions constructively.

Requirements

• Proficiency in Python for backend engineering.
• Practical experience with Docker for containerization and deployment in scalable environments.
• Experience with backend architecture, API design, and robust database interactions.
• Hands-on experience building, operating, or integrating technologies for space missions.
• Ability to analyze complex business and technical processes and communicate clearly across engineering, operations, and business functions.
• Fluency in English and availability to work on-site in San Francisco or Golden.

Nice to have

• Experience designing, modeling, or analyzing space missions.
• Proficiency with Django and GraphQL.
• Familiarity with GCP, AWS, Kubernetes, and modern cloud infrastructure.
• Experience with PyTest, Jest, React Testing Library, Playwright, Cypress, and CI/CD practices.
