Director of Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC)

Location: On-site in New York City, San Francisco, or Toronto; in-person attendance required 4–5 days per week.

Salary: $200,000–$275,000 USD/CAD annually, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Own the GRC program and set strategic direction across SOC 1, SOC 2, PCI, HITRUST, and HIPAA frameworks.
• Manage audit planning, evidence collection, documentation, auditor communications, and end-to-end audit relationships.
• Define compliance roadmaps and coordinate regulatory accountability across Security Engineering, Legal, and business teams.
• Build and lead the GRC team through hiring, mentorship, prioritization, and performance management.
• Oversee vendor risk management, third-party due diligence, risk tiering, and escalation of critical findings.
• Manage security questionnaires, compliance policies, and security-related contractual obligations.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in GRC, information security, or a related field, including 3+ years in leadership or program ownership.
• Deep expertise in SOC 1, SOC 2, PCI, HIPAA, and ISO certifications.
• Experience managing audit programs end to end and working directly with external auditors.
• Experience building or scaling a GRC function, including hiring and developing a team.
• Strong knowledge of vendor risk management, third-party due diligence, and risk-based decision-making.
• Ability to communicate complex compliance and risk matters to executive and board-level audiences and influence cross-functional stakeholders.
