TL;DR
Mechanical / CAD Engineer (Wearable Hardware): Designing and manufacturing wearable capture hardware with an accent on mechanical architecture, optical alignment, power packaging, thermal management, and design for manufacturing. Focus on precision tolerance stack-ups, GD&T, structural and thermal FEA, and delivering hardware to real users within months.

Location: China; on-site

Compensation: CN¥80K–CN¥100K plus equity

What you will do

  • Lead the end-to-end mechanical design of wearable human-motion capture hardware.
  • Design chassis architecture, packaging, weight distribution, human-fit features, serviceability, and assembly systems.
  • Develop camera and lens mounts for multi-camera arrays, including kinematic alignment systems, bonded inserts, and tolerance stack-ups.
  • Design battery enclosures, swap mechanisms, connector layouts, cable routing, and drop- and impact-resistant structures.
  • Develop passive thermal-management solutions for compact wearable form factors while meeting touch-temperature constraints.
  • Prepare production drawings, GD&T, fixtures, tolerance verification, first-article inspection, and manufacturing handoff for CNC, injection molding, sheet metal, and composite layup.

Requirements

  • Hands-on mechanical CAD experience with SolidWorks, NX, Creo, or Fusion 360.
  • Experience shipping consumer or wearable hardware to real users.
  • Strong design-for-manufacturing knowledge across CNC, injection molding, and sheet metal.
  • Experience with tolerance stack-ups and GD&T for precision optical systems.
  • Experience with structural and thermal FEA.
  • Ability to work on-site in China.

Nice to have

  • Head-worn or body-worn product experience in AR/VR, action cameras, sports technology, or smart eyewear.
  • Composite chassis design experience, including carbon fiber and cyanate ester matrices.
  • Multi-camera optical alignment experience.
  • Experience working directly with Asian ODMs and tooling shops.
  • Background in research-grade capture systems or medical wearables.
