Staff+ Software Engineer, Product Sandboxing (AI Security)

Location: San Francisco, CA; New York City, NY; or Seattle, WA. Hybrid attendance is required, with staff expected to be in an office at least 25% of the time.

Annual salary: $405,000–$485,000 USD

What you will do

• Build and operate the secure execution environment behind Claude’s agentic capabilities.
• Make untrusted code execution safe, fast, and reliable across Anthropic products.
• Independently scope complex, multi-month platform projects and drive alignment across organizations.
• Make architectural decisions that shape the scaling of foundational platform systems.
• Partner with research teams to productize cutting-edge AI capabilities.
• Own platform work from design through deployment and operations.

Requirements

• At least 8 years of practical experience as a backend or platform engineer building scalable distributed systems.
• Strong foundations in service-oriented architecture, networking, and systems design.
• Proficiency in Python, Go, Rust, or similar systems languages.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure such as GCP, AWS, or Azure, and container orchestration with Kubernetes and/or multi-cloud networking.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, or professional experience in a relevant field.
• Ability to work from one of the listed US offices under the hybrid policy.
