Director, Nuclear Fire Safety

Location: Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, London, or Manchester, United Kingdom. Employment is conditional on eligibility for and the ability to obtain and maintain UK Government Security Clearance at SC level or above.

What you will do

• Lead and deliver Fire Hazard Assessments, fire PSA, fire safety strategies, and related safety studies under UK regulatory frameworks.
• Provide technical leadership on nuclear projects and ensure high-quality client deliverables.
• Support and review safety cases, risk assessments, and fire-safety design justifications.
• Represent hirify.global in client and regulator engagements, technical discussions, reviews, and approvals.
• Identify business opportunities, lead proposals, grow client relationships, and shape the commercial strategy for nuclear within the UK Energy & Utilities sector.
• Mentor and develop the nuclear team while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and monitoring changes to regulations, British Standards, IAEA guidelines, and ONR guidance.

Requirements

• Extensive, credible experience in nuclear fire engineering and safety within the UK context.
• Proven experience delivering Fire Hazard Analyses, fire PSA, and safety case contributions for UK nuclear licensees.
• Strong business development skills with a record of winning and growing client accounts.
• Commercial acumen and the ability to contribute to proposals, pricing, and strategy.
• Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or equivalent professional recognition, such as MIFireE, IMechE, or IET.
• Degree in Fire Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Eligibility for UK Security Clearance at SC level as a minimum, with the ability to obtain and maintain clearance.
• A full background and financial check is required as part of the vetting process.

Nice to have

• Experience in GDA, new reactor design licensing, or high-hazard facility projects.
• Familiarity with ONR Safety Assessment Principles and Technical Assessment Guides.
• Engagement with EDF, Sellafield Ltd, Magnox, or international nuclear operators.
