Engineering Manager - Backend (Transcend)

Location: Must be based in or near Kraków, Poland; hybrid work with 60% of the week in office or local sites and the remainder remotely.

Salary: 31,000–40,000 PLN gross per month, plus up to a 20% yearly performance-based bonus.

What you will do

• Lead a software engineering team of approximately eight engineers and provide technical direction.
• Translate stakeholder and customer needs into scalable technical solutions and prioritized service features.
• Design secure, performant, and maintainable architectures and RESTful APIs.
• Guide development standards, testing, deployments, monitoring, performance optimization, and production support.
• Coach engineers through regular 1:1s, mentoring, and career development.
• Represent the team in cross-functional discussions and collaborate with product managers and external retail partners.

Requirements

• Experience managing software engineering teams and at least 6 years of hands-on software development experience.
• Strong system design, architecture, technical leadership, and end-to-end project ownership skills.
• Practical experience with Azure or a similar cloud platform and high-scale environments such as e-commerce systems.
• Experience with Agile methodologies, including Scrum or Kanban.
• Fluent English with excellent communication skills.
• Ability to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders, customers, and external partners; occasional travel and flexible hours may be required for different time zones.

• Experience with Java 21+, Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, Couchbase, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, Docker, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, SonarQube, Selenium, Prometheus, Grafana, Git, and GitHub.
