Staff Software Engineer (SIMD Kernels)

Location: Santa Clara, California headquarters, regional offices, or remote within the United States; hybrid work is available.

Salary: $190,000–$300,000 per year, plus equity and bonus opportunities.

What you will do

• Develop, enhance, and maintain SIMD software kernels for ML operators including softmax, layer normalization, activation functions, GEMMs, convolutions, and pooling.
• Productize the software stack for an AI compute engine and next-generation AI hardware.
• Map algorithms and AI framework computational graphs onto modern hardware architectures.
• Build SDK solutions that improve developer usability and enable performance analysis.
• Navigate hardware–software co-design trade-offs and deliver scalable, high-quality software.

Requirements

• MS or PhD in computer engineering, mathematics, physics, or a related field, plus 5+ years of industry experience.
• Strong knowledge of computer architecture, data structures, system software, and machine learning fundamentals.
• Proficiency in C/C++ and Python development in a Linux environment.
• Experience implementing algorithms for specialized hardware such as FPGAs, DSPs, GPUs, or AI accelerators, including CUDA-based development.
• Experience implementing operators used in ML workloads and a strong sense of ownership and leadership.

Nice to have

• Startup, small-team, or incubation experience.
• Experience with TensorFlow, PyTorch, MLIR, LLVM, TVM, or Glow.
• Experience with deep learning models for computer vision, NLP, or recommendation systems.
• Experience developing for embedded SIMD vector processors such as Tensilica.
• Experience at a cloud provider or AI compute/subsystem company.
