PhD Position Molecular Modeling of Hydrogen Production Processes (Hydrogen Production)

Location: Delft, Netherlands; relocation to the Netherlands may be required

Salary: €3059–€3881 gross per month, increasing from the first to the fourth year.

What you will do

• Develop hierarchical molecular simulations for green and low-carbon hydrogen production technologies.
• Model thermodynamic, structural, transport, and kinetic properties relevant to water electrolysers.
• Generate experimental-quality data for multiscale model development and validation.
• Investigate bulk electrolyte properties, membrane thermodynamics and transport, and visco-elastic membrane behavior.
• Study catalyst-ionomer interfaces in PEM and AEM electrolysis systems.
• Develop methods and models when existing approaches are insufficient.

Requirements

• MSc degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Physics, or a similar discipline.
• Strong knowledge of mathematics, physics, chemistry, and thermodynamics.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Ability to work independently and produce novel, accurate results.
• Ability to collaborate with students, senior researchers, and project stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Prior experience with molecular simulation, ab-initio modeling, or macroscale modeling.

• Four-year doctoral employment period, generally provided through an initial 1.5-year contract and a subsequent 2.5-year contract subject to progress and performance.
