Software Engineer III (Data Center Packet Forwarding)

Location: Onsite in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India; primarily working from an HPE office.

What you will do

• Work with customer-facing teams to understand requirements and translate them into software designs.
• Develop complex packet-forwarding features across Layer 2 and Layer 3, IPv4/IPv6, MPLS, SRv6, EVPN-VxLAN, multicast, firewall/filtering, and DHCP.
• Analyze, debug, and fix complex microkernel and Linux issues.
• Drive innovation with cross-functional teams to address complex technical problems.
• Help resolve complex customer issues reported from the field and support customer satisfaction.
• Maintain and enhance existing features.

Requirements

• B.E. or B.Tech degree from a reputed institution in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering, plus 7–9 years of experience.
• Excellent C, C++, and Python programming, software design, problem-solving, and debugging skills.
• Strong networking background and understanding of IPv4/IPv6, TCP, OSPF, BGP, MPLS, DHCP, STP, and multicast, with a deep dive into at least one networking area.
• Strong knowledge of C programming fundamentals, string and memory operations, pointers, macros and typedefs, and bit manipulation.
• Knowledge of data structures including arrays, linked lists, binary trees, and hash tables.
• Understanding of operating-system concepts including IPC, synchronization, and memory segmentation.
• Experience solving varied C programming problems using development tools.
• Expertise with debugging tools such as GDB, GDB macros, or GDB scripts.
• Exposure to multi-core software architectures, computer architecture, data structures, programming practices, and the product development cycle.
• Strong record of delivering high-quality software projects on time, along with good oral and written communication, self-motivation, and teamwork skills.
• Must currently be playing a strong technical role.

Nice to have

• Prior software-development experience on routers or switches.
• Experience with datapath ASICs or NPUs such as Broadcom, Mellanox, Innovium, or Barefoot.
