Java Engineer (readiness to switch to Kotlin)

Location: Remote in the European Union, Georgia, or Kazakhstan; remote and hybrid work options are available. Relocation support is available for eligible candidates.

What you will do

• Design and evolve banking APIs for mobile applications and internal and external services.
• Build scalable backend solutions with Java, Kotlin, and modern JVM technologies.
• Develop public APIs, internal SDKs, libraries, and shared platform components.
• Implement high-performance integrations with partners and third-party systems.
• Contribute to the architecture, scalability, and reliability of core banking platforms.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in the JVM ecosystem with strong Java or Kotlin expertise.
• Deep understanding of concurrency and asynchronous programming.
• Experience designing clean architectures, including DDD and event-driven approaches.
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems and their trade-offs.
• Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes, preferably in AWS.
• Strong ownership, continuous learning, and knowledge-sharing skills.

Nice to have

• Interest or experience in platform engineering.
• Experience with database performance optimization or functional programming.
• Background building internal libraries, SDKs, or developer tools.
• Experience collaborating closely with business and product requirements.
