Strong Middle Data Engineer (Python/dbt)

Location: Ukraine or Europe; hybrid work is available, with the option to work remotely or from the Kyiv coworking hub.

What you will do

• Build and support Airflow pipelines integrating APIs, payment providers, ad networks, and other third-party sources with retries, backfills, and quality checks.
• Translate ambiguous business requirements into reliable data models in collaboration with Analytics Engineers and product teams.
• Design fact and dimension tables in dbt using dimensional modeling, including Kimball methodology, star schemas, snowflake schemas, and SCDs.
• Migrate SQL transformations into documented and tested dbt models while improving project structure, naming conventions, and CI checks.
• Optimize warehouse queries and materializations to reduce latency and cost.
• Evaluate table formats and build initial ingestion flows for a Data Lakehouse prototype.

Requirements

• Strong Python and advanced SQL skills, including complex transformations, window functions, and query optimization.
• Proven experience building and orchestrating ELT/ETL pipelines with Airflow.
• Solid experience with dbt for data modeling, testing, documentation, and project management.
• Practical experience with cloud data warehouses such as BigQuery, Redshift, or Snowflake, plus Cloud Storage.
• Hands-on experience with Docker, Git workflows, and basic cloud or containerized environments.
• Intermediate English and fluent Ukrainian are required. Strong stakeholder communication and the ability to handle ambiguous requirements are expected.

Nice to have

• Experience with CDC tools and patterns such as Debezium.
• Experience building large-scale data processing jobs with PySpark.
• Experience with Kafka, RabbitMQ, Flink, or Kafka Streams for real-time and stream processing.
• Experience using AI/LLM tools such as Claude to speed up delivery.
