Principal Software Engineer, Data

Location: Hybrid in Austin, US. Applicants who reach the offer stage may be asked to attend an in-person interview at a hirify.global office or hub.

What you will do

• Define and execute strategic technical architecture for highly visible, critical data infrastructure.
• Design and develop tools and services to improve and scale hirify.global’s data platform.
• Build data pipelines, data products, and automated service-delivery tooling for teams across the company.
• Lead work across access control, ingestion, AI-driven data classification, governance, dashboarding, and query tooling.
• Become a subject matter expert on data platforms and data usage, supporting stakeholders with complex data needs.
• Mentor engineers and help reinforce a culture of delivery and accountability.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience focused on designing, building, and scaling data infrastructure.
• Experience leading technical initiatives across functions and working with multiple stakeholders.
• Extensive experience with data infrastructure at scale, including Trino, Spark, Iceberg or Delta Lake, Kafka, ClickHouse, and PostgreSQL.
• Experience designing, building, and debugging large-scale data pipelines.
• Proficiency in Go, Python, TypeScript, Rust, and SQL.
• Strong analytical and communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice to have

• Experience with Airflow, dbt, Kubernetes infrastructure, data governance, privacy, and auditability.
• Knowledge of machine learning models and MLOps.
• Experience with agentic development workflows and an AI-first approach.
