Principal Frontend Software Engineer (Discovery UX)

Location: San Mateo, California, United States; office-based roles are onsite Tuesday through Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday.

What you will do

• Design, build, and ship discovery features used by millions of Roblox users.
• Architect high-performance solutions for websites, apps, and multiple device platforms.
• Influence client-server orchestration, dynamic code deployment, and rendering across the Roblox ecosystem.
• Improve user experience through A/B testing and detailed experiment analysis.
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams on scalable, long-term technical designs.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software development experience.
• 8+ years working with web or app technologies, including React, TypeScript, and JavaScript.
• Experience building and launching complex consumer-facing features.
• Frontend architecture expertise and a full-stack mindset, with the ability to work across backend and data infrastructure when needed.
• Systematic approach to solving ambiguous technical problems and using data to guide decisions.
• For US-based roles, certain US work authorization categories may not be supported, and future H-1B sponsorship may be unavailable.

Nice to have

• Degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Applied Math, Physics, Engineering, Statistics, or another technical field.
