Engineer, Application Security (Fintech)

Location: Hybrid in Chicago, Illinois, United States. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

Base salary: $102,850–$133,100 per year, with potential annual incentive compensation and, where applicable, long-term equity participation.

What you will do

• Partner with application and platform engineering teams to improve the security of containerized Kubernetes services.
• Participate in secure design reviews and threat modeling for features, services, and APIs.
• Perform code-level security reviews and provide actionable remediation guidance.
• Integrate and operate SAST, dependency, container image, and secret-scanning tools in CI/CD pipelines.
• Apply secure container and Kubernetes deployment practices, including secure base images, dependency hygiene, RBAC, namespaces, and service accounts.
• Support incident response, root-cause analysis, post-incident reviews, and preventative fixes.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of professional experience in software engineering, application security, or a related field.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related discipline is preferred.
• Hands-on experience building, testing, and deploying production services and modifying existing codebases.
• Experience with Docker or OCI containers and familiarity with Kubernetes primitives and security concepts.
• Knowledge of web and API vulnerabilities, including authentication and authorization issues, injection, and SSRF.
• Proficiency in at least one backend language such as Go, Java, C#, Python, or Node, plus Git-based development and modern CI/CD workflows.
