Backend Engineer (TypeScript, SQL)

What you will do

• Grow Supabase client API compatibility and keep behavior faithful to hosted Supabase using conformance tests.
• Bring more of the Supabase stack to SQLite.
• Build and harden the upgrade path from Supabase Lite to full Supabase.
• Own developer experience end to end: CLI, local tooling, and documentation.
• Scale the hosted offering on a scale-to-zero, near-zero-cost footing with loosely coupled implementation.
• Work with design partners to reduce real-world migration/integration friction and contribute to the open-source community.

Requirements

• Substantial backend or full-stack experience with strong fluency in TypeScript, and experience building or contributing to backend systems/frameworks/developer platforms.
• Strong generalist who can move across the stack (API design, storage internals, infrastructure) and pick up what the problem needs.
• Ability to read unfamiliar code and match reference implementations in TypeScript (e.g., GoTrue/PostgREST behavior).
• Solid grounding in SQL and relational databases, with curiosity about differences between Postgres and SQLite.
• Bias toward compatibility and correctness, using tests and specs to prove behavior.
• Comfort owning ambiguous, early-stage work and making decisions that define the spec; clear written communication.
