TL;DR

Analytical Engineer (Data): Building and optimizing trusted data models, metrics, and semantic layers to power business decision-making with an accent on dbt transformations and data quality. Focus on creating reusable analytical products, improving data governance, and enabling AI-driven analytics like text-to-SQL.

Location: Hybrid (Manchester, UK). Must be based in the UK and able to visit the office one day every two weeks.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain trusted analytical models, transformations, and semantic definitions across business domains.
• Develop and improve dbt models, tests, and documentation to ensure reliable, well-governed analytics.
• Shape semantic layers that support BI tools and emerging AI use cases, such as natural language analytics.
• Collaborate with Data Engineering and Product teams to translate complex reporting needs into scalable data products.
• Enhance data quality through rigorous testing, monitoring, and validation of analytical models.
• Explore AI-assisted tools to optimize SQL review, test generation, and documentation workflows.

Requirements

• Strong SQL skills with experience building analytical data models in a production environment.
• Expertise in data modelling approaches such as dimensional modelling and star schemas.
• Hands-on experience with dbt or similar transformation and orchestration tools.
• Proficiency in cloud data environments such as Databricks, BigQuery, or Snowflake.
• Experience with engineering practices including Git, pull requests, and CI/CD.
• Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience with enterprise semantic layers or tools like Hex, Looker, or Cube.
• Exposure to AI-enabled analytics, text-to-SQL, or agentic data workflows.
• Experience using AI tools (Claude, Gemini) to improve SQL development and testing.
• Understanding of medallion-style architecture or silver-to-gold data modelling patterns.
