Engineering Manager, Connectivity (AI)

Location: London, UK. Hybrid policy: staff are expected to work from one of the offices at least 25% of the time.

Annual salary: £255,000–£325,000 GBP.

What you will do

• Lead engineers building connectivity infrastructure for Claude, Claude Code, Cowork, and the API.
• Guide development of the MCP proxy, OAuth, token management, and secure access to external systems.
• Hire, coach, mentor, and manage the performance and career development of direct reports.
• Set the roadmap with engineering leadership and partner with product, security, and platform teams.
• Drive cross-team delivery and alignment across London, San Francisco, and US-based teams.
• Establish engineering practices for on-call operations, incident response, postmortems, and production reliability.

Requirements

• Experience managing software engineering teams, including hiring, coaching, and performance management.
• Technical background in backend or platform engineering with the ability to guide architecture and technical discussions.
• Experience operating production distributed systems with reliability, observability, and incident response requirements at scale.
• Strong communication and consensus-building skills across teams and time zones.
• Experience building a culture of belonging and engineering excellence.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, or professional experience in a relevant field.

Nice to have

• 3+ years of experience as an engineering manager.
• Familiarity with MCP, open standards, or open source ecosystems.
• Experience with OAuth, token management, identity systems, API gateways, proxies, or multi-tenant platforms.
• Experience building enterprise products with administration, governance, and compliance controls.
• Experience working on AI/ML products or agentic systems.
