Location: Must be a resident of British Columbia, Canada and legally entitled to work in Canada. Role offers a choice between remote work (within BC) or working from the Vancouver studio.

Salary: $40–$57 per hour.

What you will do

• Create highly detailed, photorealistic matte paintings that integrate seamlessly with practical set builds and CG environments.
• Collaborate with the VFX Art Director and Lead Environment Artists to develop visual beats that match storytelling themes.
• Render 3D images and elements optimized for integration into the production pipeline.
• Produce environments, landscapes, skies, and set extensions using a suite of digital tools.
• Ensure flawless integration of matte paintings into set-based plates and CG shots, aligning with lighting and perspective.
• Select the most effective 2D, 2.5D, or 3D approach for each specific shot.

Requirements

• Must be a resident of British Columbia, Canada.
• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada (Citizen, PR, or Open Work Permit).
• 3-5+ years of experience as a Digital Matte Paint Artist in VFX or film.
• Strong proficiency in industry-standard software including Photoshop, Nuke, Mari, Houdini, Maya, Blender, and Substance Painter.
• Exceptional understanding of color theory, lighting, composition, and visual storytelling.
• Ability to work on Pacific Standard Time with a reliable ethernet internet connection.

Nice to have

• Strong portfolio in photography or traditional art forms like drawing, painting, or sculpting.
• Familiarity with lighting and compositing techniques.
