TL;DR
Senior Principal Engineer (API Platform): Defining and owning the technical architecture of the Bentley Developer Platform with an accent on API gateway design, authentication, and billing infrastructure. Focus on establishing platform standards, integrating AI/MCP surfaces, and providing senior technical leadership across the engineering organization.
Location: Preference is for hybrid or office-based work in Dublin, Ireland; remote options are available within Ireland.

What you will do
- Define the architecture for the developer platform, including API gateways, authentication, metering, and billing.
- Write production code and conduct code reviews while acting as the senior technical authority.
- Develop and publish API design standards in collaboration with product engineering teams.
- Establish security and integration patterns, including IMS OAuth, across all platform surfaces.
- Ensure AI and MCP surfaces are integrated as first-class citizens within the platform architecture.
- Partner with engineering management and the CIO organization on technical strategy and enterprise integration.
Requirements
- Must be based in or able to work from the Dublin, Ireland office (hybrid/onsite preferred).
- 12+ years of software engineering experience with a focus on large-scale system architecture.
- Deep expertise in API platform architecture, including routing, rate limiting, and entitlement enforcement.
- Strong background in OAuth 2.0, OIDC, and cloud-native infrastructure.
- Proven track record of defining and influencing technical standards across independent teams.
- Excellent communication skills to align senior engineers across organizational boundaries.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with AI/agent integration patterns and MCP.
- Experience with event-pipeline systems and settlement/ERP integration.
