TL;DR
Director of External Manufacturing (Supply Chain): Leading production readiness, cost validation, and supplier execution for a high-growth e-commerce portfolio with an accent on the intersection of product design and cost realization. Focus on shifting production iteration upstream, optimizing should-cost frameworks, and managing global supplier ecosystems to improve first-pass execution.

Location: Hybrid in Norwalk, CT (3 in-office days: Monday–Wednesday)

What you will do

  • Own U.S.-side production readiness from initial brief to build-ready state.
  • Validate product specifications for manufacturability and cost feasibility before sourcing.
  • Develop and manage should-cost frameworks, including BOM breakdowns and labor assumptions.
  • Build and manage a North American external manufacturing ecosystem for finishing and packaging.
  • Provide strategic direction and operational oversight to the China Sourcing team.
  • Act as a quality and completeness filter for all inputs entering the Asia production system.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in external manufacturing, sourcing, or cost engineering leadership.
  • Deep expertise in BOM construction, should-cost modeling, and supplier cost drivers.
  • Proven experience working directly with Asia-based (China) manufacturers.
  • Strong commercial judgment regarding how manufacturing decisions affect margins and retail performance.
  • Must be based in or able to commute to Norwalk, CT for the hybrid schedule.

Nice to have

  • Engineering, industrial design, or technical product development background.
  • Experience in packaging, retail execution, or display operations.
  • Exposure to PLM systems and structured product development processes.
