Threat Detection Researcher (Cybersecurity)

Location: New York City, United States. Applicants must have the legal right to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.

Base salary: $200,000–$250,000 USD per year, plus bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Develop threat detections and security tools for the Wiz Runtime Sensor.
• Investigate attacks on cloud environments and malware targeting cloud and AI workloads.
• Hunt and analyze real-world attacks and emerging cloud and AI threats.
• Collaborate with R&D to turn research findings into product features.
• Support customers investigating suspicious activity and potential security incidents.
• Create security best practices, policies, blog posts, and conference presentations based on research.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience in security or threat research, including deep research with actionable conclusions and impact.
• Deep knowledge of Windows, Linux, and MacOS internals and networking.
• Experience with cloud services, Kubernetes, cloud architecture, and AWS, GCP, and Azure.
• Proficiency in Python for tool development and automation.
• Experience delivering security detections in customer-facing products.
• Strong independent working, communication, and teamwork skills.

Nice to have

• Malware analysis, reverse engineering, or vulnerability research experience.
• Threat actor knowledge, threat intelligence analysis, incident response, red teaming, or threat hunting experience.
• Experience using AI to improve research and detection workflows.
• Knowledge of supply-chain, CI/CD, cloud, AI infrastructure, or agentic-framework threats.
• Knowledge of Go, Rust, or C/C++.
