• Own and ship the Portable UI Platform across web and React Native by 2026.
• Abstract cross-platform complexity into the design system layer to enable portable-first capabilities for product teams.
• Set technical standards for how portable components are built, distributed, and consumed at scale for 800+ engineers.
• Mentor engineers through the transition from web-first to cross-platform development.
• Lead the strategic evolution of the design system to support AI-assisted workflows and native mobile experiences.
• Codify frontend engineering best practices and influence the overall frontend specialty at Canva.

Requirements

• Proven experience developing or leading a design system with a focus on platform stewardship.
• Deep understanding of HTML, CSS, Web APIs, JS/TS, and React.
• Hands-on experience with cross-platform UI/UX development using React Native.
• Track record of shipping large, cross-functional projects with scalable technical solutions.
• Must be based in Sydney, Australia.

Nice to have

• Experience championing significant technical change as both a leader and IC.
• Ability to write accessible code according to WCAG 2.2 AA specifications.
• Exposure to native or hybrid development environments.
• Background in stakeholder communication and internal advocacy.
