Editor (Academic Publishing)

TL;DR

Editor (Academic Publishing): Supporting the editorial and strategic development of PeerJ journals with an accent on manuscript assessment, peer review management, and scientific standards. Focus on conducting ethical investigations, recruiting editorial board members, and championing open research.

Location: Must be based within a commutable distance of Milton Park, Oxfordshire (minimum 3 days per week in-person).

What you will do

• Provide expert support and serve as an escalation point for the manuscript assessment team in handling complex scenarios.
• Recruit, vet, and manage Editorial Board members across diverse subject areas.
• Advise internal and external stakeholders on scientific, technical, and editorial standards.
• Manage the full peer review process for manuscripts and lead ethical investigations.
• Represent the journal at local and international conferences to promote open research initiatives.
• Collaborate with the Chief Editor on strategic development and updates to journal policies.

Requirements

• Advanced degree (minimum PhD, ideally postdoctoral).
• Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal).
• Knowledge of the academic publishing industry.
• Ability to understand complex scientific topics and communicate them to a broader audience.
• Ability to work in-person at the Milton Park office at least 3 days per week.
