Staff Software Engineer (Modeling, APIs): Designing and building the core metadata modeling systems and API infrastructure for Octopai’s data intelligence platform with an accent on scalable domain representations and enterprise-grade API design. Focus on creating extensible, secure, and high-performance backend systems that power lineage, cataloging, and governance across SaaS and on-prem environments.

Location: Must be based in Prague, Czech Republic (Hybrid role).

What you will do

• Design and implement core metadata modeling systems to represent complex relationships across data assets and lineage.
• Build and evolve scalable, secure APIs that power platform functionality and partner integrations.
• Drive improvements in API versioning, extensibility, and developer experience.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to translate platform requirements into robust modeling solutions.
• Ensure API layers meet enterprise-grade performance, reliability, and security standards.
• Partner with infrastructure teams to ensure maintainability across SaaS and customer-managed deployments.

Requirements

• 8–12+ years of backend engineering experience with demonstrated impact at the Staff level.
• Strong expertise in building API-first backend systems or platform-level domain infrastructure.
• Excellent programming skills in C# (.NET) and Java.
• Proven experience designing and maintaining RESTful APIs and distributed backend services.
• Strong understanding of data modeling principles, metadata-driven architectures, or domain-driven design (DDD).
• Hands-on experience with SQL and NoSQL databases such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or ArangoDB.

Nice to have

• Experience in data lineage, metadata management, or governance platforms.
• Background with graph databases and modeling highly connected data ecosystems.
• Familiarity with OpenAPI standards, API gateways, and SDK generation.
• Knowledge of search/index systems like ElasticSearch or Solr.
