Lead Props Artist

TL;DR

Lead Props Artist (Game Art): Overseeing artistic quality and mentoring Prop Artists while building and optimizing modeling/texturing workflows (PBR) across multiple AAA game projects. Focus on maintaining a “Gold Standard” output, managing production pipelines and task distribution, and collaborating with Art Directors, Technical Artists, and Project Managers to remove bottlenecks.

What you will do

• Lead, mentor, and inspire a Props team with regular feedback and performance reviews.
• Ensure props assets meet AAA artistic and technical requirements for partner projects.
• Develop and optimize modeling and texturing workflows using PBR to hit demanding schedules.
• Distribute tasks across active projects and ensure deadlines are met.
• Collaborate with Art Directors, Technical Artists, and Project Managers to identify risks and resolve production bottlenecks.
• Create and maintain technical briefs, style guides, and best-practice documentation for the props department.

Requirements

• 5+ years of game art experience, including 2+ years in a Lead or supervisory role.
• Strong portfolio with expert-level hard-surface and organic props across multiple styles.
• Expert knowledge of Maya, 3ds Max, or Blender, plus ZBrush and the Substance Suite (Painter/Designer).
• Deep understanding of Unreal Engine (UE4/UE5) or proprietary AAA engines.
• Complete mastery of PBR workflows, UV optimization, baking, and LOD management.
• Strong English communication skills (written and verbal) to clearly articulate artistic feedback.
