Systems Engineer (Fintech)

Location: Remote within Europe, within two hours of London

Salary: £90,000–£130,000 base plus equity

Builds a fintech platform addressing the cross-border payments problem, with a Go stack and a focus on high-performance systems engineering.

What you will do

• Build and own the infrastructure running the production payments platform.
• Write production Go for systems and backend engineering.
• Tune performance and engineer for reliability, treating failure as inevitable.
• Instrument the stack with logs, traces, and metrics through a unified observability pipeline.
• Perform security analysis across network, operating system, and code layers.
• Participate in on-call rotations and support the platform operationally.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in systems engineering, SRE, or a closely related discipline.
• Production-level Go written to a senior backend engineering standard.
• Ability to reason from first principles about systems close to the hardware and demonstrate strong mechanical sympathy.
• Solid Kubernetes knowledge and understanding of OS internals, including user/kernel separation and system calls.
• Host-level networking experience with TCP/IP, iptables, and CNI.
• Infrastructure-as-code experience with Terraform or an equivalent tool.
• Ability to select and unify logs, traces, and metrics for observability.

• Relational database experience.
