What you will do

• Design and implement search retrieval algorithms across multiple search engines.
• Optimize existing algorithms to improve efficiency and system performance.
• Create technical design documents and participate in comprehensive code reviews.
• Own the full development lifecycle, ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of search designs.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with international engineers and PMs to enhance user experience.
• Maintain operational excellence through rigorous testing, monitoring, and periodic on-call support.

Requirements

• Strong understanding of information retrieval techniques and data structures.
• Experience writing sophisticated, highly performant, and reliable algorithmic solutions.
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Java, C++, or Rust.
• Ability to implement monitoring instrumentation and resolve complex operational diagnostics.
• Fluent communication in English.
• Must be based in Japan.

Nice to have

• Experience with maps, routing, and navigation systems.
• Knowledge of NLP, ML, or Generative AI.
• Experience with search engines like ElasticSearch, Solr, or Lucene.
• Background in big data, scale, and data mining.
