Staff Backend Engineer (Go)

Location: Must be based in the US or Canada

Salary: $186,368 - $223,642 CAD

What you will do

• Design and lead the development of scalable backend services and distributed systems in Go.
• Architect and implement gRPC/protobuf APIs and service contracts for enterprise operators.
• Drive scalability, reliability, and security improvements for the Grafana platform.
• Collaborate with Product, UX, and frontend engineers to deliver end-to-end observability solutions.
• Engage directly with large enterprise customers to translate requirements into robust engineering solutions.
• Mentor and hire engineers while driving continuous improvement of engineering culture.

Requirements

• Deep professional experience building and operating production services at scale.
• Strong fundamentals in distributed systems (replication, consistency, fault tolerance).
• Expertise in Go and database systems like PostgreSQL or MySQL.
• Experience with Kubernetes, containerized environments, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Proficiency with observability tooling such as OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, and distributed tracing.
• Must be based in the US or Canada.

Nice to have

• Experience with TypeScript and React for frontend collaboration.
• Familiarity with the LGTM stack (Loki, Mimir, Tempo, Pyroscope, Alloy).
• Prior experience building for large-scale cloud service providers or IaaS.
• Experience with hermetic build systems (e.g., Bazel) or distributed build caches.
