Assistant Professor (Sustainable Healthcare Design)

Location: Must be based in or be able to relocate to the Netherlands (Hybrid work possible).

Salary: €4,728–€6,433 per month.

What you will do

• Establish an independent research line focused on sustainable and circular medical technologies.
• Develop methods, tools, and prototypes that balance environmental impact with clinical safety and usability.
• Contribute to educational programmes, including developing new courses and supervising MSc and PhD students.
• Actively seek external funding and expand collaborations with clinical and industrial partners.
• Participate in interdisciplinary research projects aimed at accelerating the transition to circular hospitals.

Requirements

• PhD in industrial design engineering, (bio)mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, or related fields.
• Minimum of two years of post-PhD experience (Post Doc or equivalent).
• Proven experience in conducting research and writing academic papers in health or care-related contexts.
• Proficiency in English is required; knowledge of Dutch is an advantage.
• Demonstrated ability to engage with industry, societal partners, and academic communities.
• Strong communication and organizational skills for working in transdisciplinary teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with Design for Sustainability, Medical Device Design, Circular Economy, Co-creation, and Human Centered Design.
• Teaching experience in higher education.
