Security Engineer (Trust & Safety, AI): Building and operating AI-powered detection systems and LLM guardrails to defend the platform from abuse and exploitation with an accent on adversarial attack patterns and automated response mechanisms. Focus on detecting prompt injection, building scalable classifiers, and eliminating platform abuse at scale.

Location: Hybrid (Foster City, CA). Must be based in Foster City, CA with an in-office requirement of Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Salary: $250,000 – $315,000 + Equity

What you will do

• Design and implement LLM guardrails to detect abuse scenarios in AI-generated code and agent interactions.
• Build AI-powered detection systems using LLMs to identify malicious patterns and automate response decisions.
• Operate abuse detection systems to identify phishing, cryptomining, account takeover, and financial fraud.
• Design automated response mechanisms to enforce platform policies without manual intervention.
• Analyze attack patterns using BigQuery and Hex to create new detection rules.
• Integrate and tune security scanners (SAST, SCA) in CI pipelines with strict performance SLAs.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in security engineering, anti-abuse, trust & safety, or fraud detection.
• Strong programming skills in Python and/or TypeScript.
• Experience with SQL and large-scale data analysis (BigQuery, Snowflake).
• Experience building or fine-tuning ML/LLM-based classifiers for security purposes.
• Familiarity with prompt injection, jailbreaking, and LLM-specific attack vectors.
• Location: Must be able to work from the Foster City, CA office on a hybrid schedule.

Nice to have

• Experience at a platform company dealing with user-generated content or compute abuse.
• Background in fraud detection, payment abuse, or financial crime.
• Knowledge of container security, Linux internals, or GCP infrastructure.
• Familiarity with device fingerprinting and IP reputation services.
• Experience with CI/CD security tooling like Snyk or Dependabot.
