Engineering Manager, Research Tools (AI)

Location: San Francisco, CA or New York City, NY. Hybrid policy requires staff to work from an office at least 25% of the time; some roles may require more office time.

Annual salary: $405,000–$850,000 USD

What you will do

• Lead and prioritize work on research tools supporting large-scale distributed fine-tuning runs and researcher productivity.
• Collaborate with research, product, and infrastructure teams to integrate innovations into production fine-tuning pipelines.
• Improve the efficiency of training runs, data pipelines, and model development iteration.
• Design operating processes including postmortem reviews, incident response, and on-call rotations.
• Coach reports and support professional growth, performance evaluation, mentorship, and career development.
• Run recruiting efforts, including staffing planning, interview loops, candidate evaluation, and closing.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of management experience and an active interest in people management.
• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Education, training, or professional experience in a field relevant to the role.
• Ability to understand complex technical systems at a high level and work across organizational boundaries.
• Ability to work from the San Francisco or New York City office at least 25% of the time.
