Seattle Research Site Head (Immunology)

Location: Seattle, Washington, United States; five days per week on-site

Salary: $268,000–$402,000 base salary annually, plus eligibility for an annual bonus and annual equity awards.

What you will do

• Lead immunology research strategy across biologics, immune-mediated inflammatory diseases, and autoimmune therapies.
• Provide scientific and translational leadership for the Povetacicept program and early research projects.
• Build, mentor, and develop a high-achieving research organization and oversee scientific program execution.
• Direct Seattle research site operations, including laboratory expansion, resource allocation, facilities coordination, and operational planning.
• Contribute to research governance, portfolio prioritization, development candidate nominations, and strategic technology investments.
• Represent Vertex in scientific partnerships, collaborations, business development opportunities, and external communications.

Requirements

• MD/PhD or PhD in immunology or a related scientific field.
• Typically 15 years of experience in life sciences or academia and 7 or more years of supervisory or management experience, or equivalent experience.
• Proven scientific and organizational leadership in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or major academic research institution.
• Demonstrated drug and target discovery experience with deep knowledge of disease biology and human biology.
• Track record of advancing high-quality discovery pipelines and understanding the full drug discovery and development continuum.
• Ability to work on-site in Seattle five days per week.
