What you will do

• Develop ML/CV software and control frameworks for automated cryo-FIB lift-out workflows.
• Implement adaptive, feedback-driven systems to enhance experimental usability and throughput.
• Interface automation software with advanced in-situ cryo-fluorescence and next-generation hardware.
• Conduct hands-on testing and benchmarking of automation on real cryogenic samples.
• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of microscopists, engineers, and biologists.
• Contribute to scientific publications, technical documentation, and open-source software tools.

Requirements

• PhD in computer science, physics, engineering, applied mathematics, or a related field.
• Fluency in English.
• Strong programming skills in Python and C++ with solid software engineering practices.
• Hands-on experience applying machine learning to real-world data.
• Experience developing reliable, maintainable software systems beyond prototypes.
• Ability to work onsite in Milan, Italy.

Nice to have

• Experience with computer vision (segmentation, object detection, tracking).
• Background in automation, robotics, or feedback-driven control systems.
• Familiarity with cryo-EM, cryo-tomography, or optical microscopy workflows.
• Experience interfacing with hardware via REST APIs or real-time pipelines.
