TL;DR

Solar Design Engineer (Aerospace): Designing and analyzing solar array electrical and mechanical subsystems for high-power satellites with an accent on electrical performance degradation models and hardware integration. Focus on executing acceptance tests, optimizing manufacturing processes for in-house fabrication, and investigating on-orbit anomalies.

Location: Los Angeles, CA. Must be a U.S. Person (as defined by ITAR)

Salary: $100,000 - $140,000 + equity

hirify.global is a Series C startup building the largest and highest-power satellites for missions ranging from LEO to deep space.

What you will do

  • Design and analyze solar array electrical and mechanical subsystems.
  • Develop and maintain electrical performance degradation models across environmental variations.
  • Execute and document assembly-level acceptance and qualification test procedures.
  • Collaborate with avionics, structures, software, and production teams on integration and test campaigns.
  • Contribute to in-house fabrication processes, including work instructions and end-of-line testing.
  • Participate in on-orbit data review and anomaly investigation efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in physics, materials science, mechanical, aerospace, or electrical engineering.
  • Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident/Green Card holder, or protected individual) per ITAR regulations.
  • Internship experience in photovoltaics, power systems, or materials characterization.
  • Hands-on hardware experience through internships, research, or design competitions.
  • Proficiency with CAD software (NX, CATIA, SolidWorks) and practical GD&T application.
  • Python or MATLAB proficiency for data analysis.

Nice to have

  • Exposure to solar cell or module characterization techniques (IV curves, flash testing).
  • Familiarity with structural (Nastran, ANSYS) or thermal analysis tools.
  • Knowledge of space environment effects on materials, including radiation and thermal cycling.
  • Experience with manufacturing processes such as soldering, layup, or electromechanical assembly.
