TL;DR

Principal Technical Level Designer (Unreal Engine): Implementing gameplay scenarios and maintaining toolsets for AAA multiplayer shooters like Gears of War with an accent on technical optimization, replication, and level design pipelines. Focus on prototyping tools, solving complex technical issues, performance profiling, and ensuring team compliance with standards.

Location: Warsaw, PL (Remote/Hybrid). The role is open only to candidates based in Europe.

Leading independent AAA game development studio with 20+ years of experience, specializing in Unreal Engine shooters like Gears of War, Outriders, and new titles including Gears of War: E-Day.

What you will do

  • Implement gameplay scenarios using toolsets to create checkpoints, objectives, enemy spawns, and events.
  • Maintain connected features, identify issues, and drive improvements to toolsets, workflows, and pipelines.
  • Solve complex technical issues and collaborate with programmers, designers, artists, and animators on tools and dependencies.
  • Assess designs and pipelines for risks, prototype technical elements, and test new features.
  • Review blueprints, implement prefabs, ensure compliance with metrics and standards, and balance creative vision with technical budgets.
  • Debug issues, maintain documentation, stay updated on industry practices, manage Strike Teams, and support recruitment/onboarding.

Requirements

  • 7+ years professional experience or one shipped PC/console title, including 5+ years as technical designer
  • Technical background with scripting languages, programming paradigms, and strong Unreal Engine 4/5 knowledge
  • Experience with multiplayer/co-op development, replication, network communication, performance profiling, and optimization
  • Debugging skills, problem-solving, self-motivation, ability to work independently on schedules
  • Excellent communication, mentoring skills, and strong verbal/written English
  • Game industry experience and based in Europe

Nice to have

  • Experience with multiple 3D engines
  • Tool and workflow design experience
  • Interdisciplinary generalist approach
  • Knowledge of Maya, 3DS Max, or similar
