What you will do

• Lead the migration of the core PHP monolithic backend into a secure, decoupled microservices architecture.
• Drive architectural decisions for new services and implement security, testing, and development best practices.
• Contribute high-quality TypeScript code using the NestJS framework.
• Collaborate with the Head of Platform to shape the technical vision and project roadmap.
• Integrate new partner APIs, payment systems, and data tracking into the user backend.
• Mentor developers and lead technical discussions to reach consensus on critical decisions.

Requirements

• At least 7 years of professional experience in TypeScript/Node.js development.
• Proven experience in software service architecture (e.g., DDD) and PHP 7/8.
• Experience with high-load Node.js applications and cloud technologies (GCP).
• Strong understanding of relational databases (MySQL, Postgres) and containers (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Fluent in technical and business English.
• Must be based in or able to work hybrid from Hamburg or Malta.

Nice to have

• Experience augmenting development workflows with AI tools (Claude Code, Codex, or Gemini).
• Past experience in game development.
• Interest in taking over full-stack development tasks.
