TL;DR
Post Doctoral Research Associate (Geography): Researching the cultural, scientific, and environmental factors of lunar sites of interest with an accent on 'space diplomacy' and lunar governance. Focus on developing methodologies for space diplomacy in research and policy to inform conflict resolution in space governance.
Location: Hybrid; must be based in or able to commute to the Milton Keynes office (minimum 2 days per week)
Salary: £38,784 to £46,049

What you will do
- Conduct research on the relevance of care in outer space, integrating Social Studies of Outer Space and Planetary Science.
- Develop diplomacy frameworks based on the work of Isabelle Stengers and Bruno Latour for lunar activities governance.
- Design methodologies for enacting space diplomacy in research and policy in collaboration with the PI.
- Produce high-impact peer-reviewed publications and present findings at international conferences.
- Engage with interdisciplinary teams and non-academic partners to understand justice in knowledge production.
- Organize workshops, evidence cafés, and handle administrative tasks such as risk assessments and workload planning.
Requirements
- PhD completed in Geography, Science and Technology Studies (STS), or related Social Sciences and Environmental Humanities.
- Strong academic component in Science and Technology Studies (STS).
- Demonstrable record of peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations.
- Experience working in interdisciplinary teams and engaging with non-academic communities.
- Ability to translate theoretical research into practical research insights or methods.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to meet agreed deadlines.
Nice to have
- Knowledge of space policy, global institutions, and ethical/philosophical debates related to space exploration.
- Experience working within the professional space sector.
- Evidence of contributions to educational activities or public engagement.
