Archaeology Field Technician (Gulf Coast)

Archaeology Field Technician (Gulf Coast): Conducting archaeological pedestrian surveys and data collection throughout Gulf Coast states with an accent on fieldwork in diverse terrains. Location: Onsite fieldwork throughout Gulf Coast States (Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida); based near Baton Rouge, LA or Houston, TX. Overnight travel required; ability to work outdoors in all weather and hike 5-10 miles per day.

What you will do

• Conduct archaeological pedestrian surveys and subsurface testing.
• Perform data collection using GPS, photographs, site forms, sketches.
• Measure, record, and identify artifacts.
• Prepare detailed field notes and reports.
• Work independently or as part of a team in challenging terrains.
• Handle other fieldwork duties as required.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Archaeology, Anthropology or related field.
• At least 6 months archaeological field experience or field school.
• Experience with archaeological survey and excavation.
• Valid driver's license; ability to lift 50 lbs; pass drug/alcohol and fit-for-work testing.
• Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (accommodations for medical/religious exemptions).
• Excellent communication, attention to detail, GPS/navigation skills; access to laptop.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather, hike long distances.
