Onboard Field Response Lead (AI)

Location: Mountain View, California, United States; hybrid work schedule

Salary: $349,000–$431,000 USD per year, plus eligibility for an annual bonus, equity incentive plan, and company benefits.

What you will do

• Lead engineering analysis and responses to novel, rare, and unexpected events encountered by the autonomous vehicle fleet.
• Contribute to onboard software architecture focused on robustness and debuggability.
• Harden software, develop response playbooks, improve on-call metrics, and lead post-mitigation workstreams.
• Improve the robustness of software systems running inside autonomous vehicles.
• Partner with organizational leaders to improve large-scale software engineering practices.
• Organize and participate in on-call rotations and hire or manage additional engineers when needed.

Requirements

• Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 10+ years of experience leading large-scale production software systems, especially machine learning systems.
• 5+ years of experience as an organizational leader managing teams and partnering with other leaders.
• Experience organizing and running on-call rotations.
• Strong influence without authority, collaboration, communication, and organizational awareness skills.

Nice to have

• Experience leading hybrid hardware/software production systems.
• Experience leading teams working on modern deep learning and large-scale models.
• A track record of driving change in engineering organizations with more than 1,000 employees.
