What you will do

• Lead the engineering analysis and response to novel, rare, or unexpected events encountered by the autonomous fleet in the field.
• Organize and participate in oncall rotations to resolve real-time driving issues.
• Harden software and develop playbooks to improve the robustness and debuggability of the onboard systems.
• Partner with organization leads to establish and improve large-scale software engineering best practices.
• Contribute to the overall onboard software architecture to enhance reliability.
• Request, hire, and manage additional engineers to support field response responsibilities.

Requirements

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 10+ years of experience leading large-scale production software systems, specifically machine learned systems.
• 5+ years of experience as an organizational leader, managing people and partnering with other leadership.
• Proven experience organizing and running oncall rotations.
• Must be based in or able to work in Mountain View, California (Hybrid).
• Strong collaboration and communication skills with the ability to influence without authority.

Nice to have

• Experience leading hybrid hardware/software production systems.
• Experience leading teams working on modern deep ML or large-scale models.
• Track record of implementing change within engineering organizations of 1000+ people.
