Senior Data Scientist (Personalized Medicine): Develop data science methods that extract reliable signals from biomedical and optical data with an accent on modelling, signal processing, and handling noisy high-dimensional datasets. Focus on applying chemometric and multivariate methods to spectroscopic data, improving signal quality, acquisition protocols, and hardware performance.
Location: Hybrid role in Porto, Portugal with onsite training and minimum 5 days per month on-site. Greater on-site availability preferred.

What you will do
- Own full data science workflow for projects, from problem framing to delivery.
- Analyze proprietary biomedical datasets to identify patterns and opportunities.
- Develop statistical and machine learning methods for noisy, high-dimensional data.
- Design robust validation strategies with uncertainty checks.
- Improve preprocessing pipelines, signal quality, and acquisition protocols using raw data.
- Apply chemometric and multivariate analysis to spectroscopic data like Raman and FTIR.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with experimental, hardware, and product teams.
- Communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
- Contribute to reusable frameworks, best practices, publications, and patents.
Requirements
- PhD in Computer Science, Applied Math, Statistics, Physics, Engineering, or related (Master’s with strong research considered).
- 3+ years post-PhD experience in quantitative data problems.
- Strong applied statistics, predictive modelling, and experimental design.
- Experience with raw data and instrumentation for signal quality optimization.
- Strong data preprocessing, feature engineering, exploratory analysis.
- Robust validation strategies for noisy data.
- Excellent communication skills.
Nice to have
- Experience in chemometric or multivariate analysis of spectroscopic data (Raman, FTIR).
- Experience mentoring juniors.
