Software Project Lead (Automotive)

Location: Hybrid role in Tokyo or Nagoya, Japan; domestic and international travel of up to 30% is required.

What you will do

• Lead the software portion of telematics projects and deliver next-generation telematic units on schedule, within budget, and at the required quality level.
• Act as the customer-facing lead for software topics and coordinate communication with customers, suppliers, senior management, and global stakeholders.
• Orchestrate virtual, cross-functional, globally distributed software project teams.
• Plan, monitor, control, and report software project schedules, effort, product quality, and process quality.
• Define software project management processes and development lifecycle activities based on hirify.global standards and project constraints.
• Create milestone schedules and manage software work-product releases through software maturity gates.

Requirements

• University degree in engineering, information technology, computer science, business administration, or equivalent education.
• Fluent Japanese at Level 2 and business English are required.
• Expertise in project management and coordination in globally distributed development environments using Waterfall and Agile approaches.
• Knowledge of process models such as Automotive SPICE and CMMI, along with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to understand complex systems, structure dependencies, and coordinate teams of 10 or more people.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 30% and successfully complete a background investigation and aptitude test.

Nice to have

• Project Management Professional certification such as PMP.
• Automotive experience and projects implemented with Automotive SPICE Level 3.
• Experience with real-time embedded software and system development.
• Experience managing teams of 25 or more people.
• Fluent Japanese at Level 1.
