On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) Specialist (Low Voltage Infrastructure): Develop requirements, software algorithm design, and verification for in-vehicle low voltage power distribution diagnostics with an accent on OBD II compliance, emissions regulations, and safety standards. Focus on leading cross-functional teams, modeling controls, optimizing designs through simulation, and ensuring regulatory certification.
Location: Hybrid in Markham, Ontario (expected to report to office three days per week, at minimum). GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship.
Salary: $81,300 to $122,000

' Low Voltage Infrastructure team develops systems and controls for on-vehicle low voltage power generation, management, distribution, and consumption in electrified vehicles.
What you will do
- Lead multi-disciplinary teams to implement controls and diagnostic solutions compliant with safety, emissions regulations (CARB OBD II), and GM policies.
- Develop and maintain subsystem requirements in SSTS and BTS using BDD methodologies.
- Design controls-oriented models, optimize via simulation and analysis, and review software implementations.
- Collaborate with architecture, safety, service, and integration teams on diagnostic interfaces and decisions.
- Coordinate testing, issue resolution, warranty analysis, and regulatory certification submissions.
- Define calibration strategies and DTC guidance for OBD II diagnostics.
Requirements
- Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
- 3+ years automotive industry experience.
- Skilled in Simulink, MATLAB, DO-ORS, Git, Jira; Embedded C/C++ programming.
- Strong understanding of controls, diagnostics, and OBD II requirements.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams without authority; high analytical and communication skills.
- Knowledge of automotive tools (dSPACE, Vehicle Spy, etc.) and engineering standards.
Nice to have
- MS in Engineering or Computer Science.
- Experience with low voltage controls/diagnostics, CARB OBD II compliance, CAN/LIN, HIL testing.
- Change management (RTC, IBM), DFMEA reviews, GM Vehicle Development Process, DFSS Black Belt, SAFe certification.
