People Business Partner (Gamedev)

Location: Hybrid in Tokyo, Japan (must be able to work in the office 3 days a week on Tue, Wed, and Thu)

What you will do

• Support employees and managers throughout the employee lifecycle, providing guidance on people processes and employee relations.
• Execute people process management in Workday, including organizational changes, restructures, and headcount adjustments.
• Manage the delivery of people programs such as engagement surveys and performance cycles.
• Partner with recruiting teams to facilitate Tokyo hiring, ensuring local labor law compliance and managing employer branding initiatives.
• Oversee employment compliance in Japan, including regulatory documentation, working hours tracking, and contractor compliance.
• Coordinate regional health and safety programs, including Industrial Doctor management and statutory health checks.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in people programs, HR operations, or a related HRBP role.
• Business-level proficiency in both English and Japanese (written and verbal).
• Deep knowledge of Japan labor law and statutory requirements regarding contracts, working hours, and leave.
• Experience using HR systems such as Workday.
• Ability to work from the Tokyo office 3 days per week (Tue, Wed, Thu).
• Willingness to travel 5-10% internationally to the US and Spain.

• Experience supporting performance management cycles or engagement surveys.
• Experience working within a global matrix organization with US-based stakeholders.
• Familiarity with the gaming or tech industry.
• Possession of a Health Supervisor license or qualification as a Labor and Social Security Attorney.
