TL;DR
Character Artist (8-month contract) (AAA Sci-fi action): Develop detailed clothing, armor, and related materials fitting the IP’s aesthetics with an accent on full asset workflow from 3D modeling and sculpting to in-engine implementation. Focus on adhering to artistic direction, collaborating with art leadership and cross-disciplinary teams, and optimizing assets for performance and functionality.
Remote; must be legally eligible to work in Canada and reside within Canada.
$80,000 - $90,000 a year

What you will do
- Handle complete workflow from 3D modeling, sculpting, retopo, UV layouts, baking, texturing, skinning to engine implementation.
- Maintain adherence to artistic direction, metrics, and practices for speed and efficiency under Art Leadership.
- Collaborate with technical artists, animators, and designers to ensure assets function correctly in engine.
- Participate in art reviews, incorporate feedback, and share ideas to improve production and product quality.
- Reuse existing assets, textures, and materials creatively from libraries.
- Maintain cohesive character style considering detail, technical requirements, and limitations.
Requirements
- 4+ years experience in game industry character art for PC or console platforms.
- Strong portfolio with realistic human anatomy, clothing, and armor design.
- Expertise in organic 3D sculpting (ZBrush/3D-Coat), 3D modeling (Maya/Blender), hard-surface modeling.
- Grasp of map-baking, PBR workflows, material definition (Substance Painter, Photoshop).
- Experience in proprietary engines with strong technical execution and problem-solving.
- Highly collaborative with eagerness for constructive feedback.
Nice to have
- Passion for grounded, immersive science fiction.
- Knowledge of Marvelous Designer.
- Basic character skinning and rigging.
- Familiarity with 3ds Max.
- Familiarity with proprietary engines.
