TL;DR

Technical Artist (Unreal Engine 5): Design, build, and maintain efficient art pipelines, tools, and optimize materials, shaders, VFX for asymmetrical multiplayer FPS with an accent on performance profiling, asset integration, and cross-platform optimization. Focus on implementing scalable systems, debugging bottlenecks, and supporting procedural content workflows using PCG or Houdini.

Location: Hybrid position requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in Berlin office. Must be located in or near Berlin, Germany.

hirify.global is a global video game commerce company; Black Ember Games is their internal studio building an asymmetrical multiplayer FPS using Unreal Engine 5 with offices in Berlin and Novi Sad.

What you will do

  • Design, build, and maintain art pipelines and asset workflows from concept to integration
  • Develop tools, scripts, and automation (Python, MEL, Blueprint) to improve team efficiency
  • Implement and optimize materials, shaders, VFX in UE5, managing LODs, draw calls, and performance
  • Profile and debug issues using Unreal Insights, partnering with engineers
  • Support procedural content with PCG, Houdini; review outsourced assets
  • Collaborate across art, engineering; provide training and documentation

Requirements

  • High level of professional English proficiency (written and verbal) required
  • Located in or near Berlin, Germany
  • Minimum 3 years in game development as Technical Artist; shipped 1+ Unreal Engine game
  • Strong UE5 proficiency: Material Editor, Blueprint, pipelines, optimization tools
  • Experience with performance profiling (Unreal Insights, GPU Visualizer), PBR, cross-platform optimization
  • Scripting in Python/MEL; version control (Perforce/Git/SVN); procedural tools (Houdini/PCG)
  • Portfolio/demo reel with technical contributions

  • Nanite Meshes, Lumen Lighting, UE5 World Partition, HLOD
  • Substance Painter/Designer, DCC tools (Maya/Blender/3ds Max), Niagara VFX
  • HLSL/GLSL shaders, outsourced art teams, live service titles
  • Fluency in German
