VAD (Virtual Art Dept) Artist (Maya/VFX): Deliver real-time assets for Mocap, Previs and Animation using proprietary Weta pipeline with an accent on modelling, texturing, layout and lighting concepts. Focus on providing high-quality, efficient, accurate, flexible assets for real-time rendering within fast turnarounds and tight deadlines.

Location: Based in Wellington, New Zealand or Melbourne, Australia studios. Ideally NZ or AU citizens, or hold NZPR (legally entitled to work in New Zealand or Australia).

What you will do

• Conduct regularly scheduled rounds, oversee and support VAD team members
• Represent VAD team at meetings such as show dailies
• Adopt methodologies to provide assets for real-time rendering
• Motivate and guide artists at varying skill levels
• Assist show and department supervision with scheduling
• Communicate daily with artists, supervisors and production to raise concerns and solutions
• Balance multiple shows, monitor quality and productivity

Requirements

• Legally entitled to work in New Zealand or Australia
• Reel demonstrating organic and hard surface models with clean efficient topology (wireframe stills preferred)
• Quick and efficient UV and texture skills using Mari, Photoshop, Quixel, Substance Painter/Designer
• Work under pressure to tight deadlines, take direction and address notes quickly
• Experience with game engines (Unreal or Unity)
• 6+ years professional Maya 3D experience in games, VR, VFX or commercial industries
• Thorough research skills to interpret architectural plans and scan data with accurate scale
• Model collaboratively, provide feedback, quality check own and others' work
• Take initiative and work effectively independently
